Wake Up, Girls! Gets New TV Anime With New Staff, Added Characters in 2017

The "Wake Up, Girls! Festa 2016 Super Live" event announced on Sunday that production on a new Wake Up, Girls! television anime has been green-lit for broadcast next year. The event showed a teaser trailer with new character designs and a new visual from Wake Up, Girls! Shin Shō (Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter or Arc). The teaser visual features Mayu Shimada and the six other main characters who have the same original voice cast, but with new designs.
Shin Itagaki (Wake Up, Girls! episode 10 storyboards, Teekyū) is replacing Yutaka Yamamoto as the director of the new anime, and Miyuki Sugawara is replacing Sunao Chikaoka as the character designer, although Chikaoka is still credited for the original character designs. Similarly, Millepensee is replacing Ordet as the main animation studio. Satoru Kousaki and monaca are returning to compose the music at DIVE II Entertainment, and the original story and scripts are credited to "Green Leaves."
The new anime will feature the previous Wake Up, Girls! group members, but it also add new characters. The project is holding a "Wake Up, Girls! Audition" before the anime to cast the new characters.
In the story of the original anime, Green Leaves Entertainment is a tiny production company on the verge of going out of business in Sendai, the biggest city in Japan's northeastern Tohoku region. The agency once managed the careers of magicians, photo idols, fortune-tellers, and other entertainers, but its last remaining client finally quit. In danger of having zero talent (literally), the president Tange hatches an idea of producing an idol group. On the brash president's orders, the dissatisfied manager Matsuda heads out to scout raw talent. Matsuda makes a fateful encounter with a certain girl…
The television anime premiered in Japan in January 2014 along with a limited theatrical run. Crunchyroll streamed the series outside of Japan alongside the Chinese media services Tudou and Youku. Two sequel films,Wake Up, Girls! Seishun no Kage and Wake Up, Girls! Beyond the Bottom, opened on September 25 and December 11, respectively. Additionally, an original net anime spinoff titled Wake Up, Girl Zoo! premiered in 2014. Crunchyroll also streamed that spinoff series.
Sentai Filmworks released the original movie on home video on June 7, and also released the television anime series on home video in August. Most recently, the seven main voice cast members of Wake Up, Girls!performed the ending theme song for the Scorching Ping Pong Girls anime series.

Shinjuku Swan II Live-Action Film Reveals 'Battle' TV Ad, New Poster

Film adapting manga's Yokohama Kingdom arc premieres in Japan on January 21
Sony Pictures began streaming a "battle version" television ad on Thursday for Shinjuku Swan II, the sequel to the live-action film of Ken Wakui's Shinjuku Swan manga.
Sony Pictures also revealed a new "Shinjuku vs. Yokohama" poster for the film.
The film adapts the manga's "Yokohama Kingdom" arc, and is slated for January 21. UVERworld and MAN WITH A MISSION will once again perform songs for the film. UVERworld's insert song is titled "Emyu," while MAN WITH A MISSION's theme song is titled "Dead End in Tokyo."

The manga follows Tatsuhiko Shiratori, a 19-year-old with no money or job in the (in)famous Kabukichō red-light district of Tokyo's Shinjuku ward. Then one day, a man named Mako recruits him to become a scout. Tatsuhiko's job has him finding new talent for clubs, adult videos, and other areas of Kabukichō's night life. Tatsuhiko has taken his first step into the cutthroat business of Tokyo's underworld.
Wakui launched the manga in Young Magazine in 2005, and ended it in 2013. Kodansha published the manga's 38th and final compiled book volume in December 2013. The manga already inspired a six-episode live-action television series in 2007. In that version, Yōsuke Kawamura played Tatsuhiko. The first film opened in Japan in May 2015.

Ai Mai Mi Anime's 3rd Season Reveals More Cast, January 3 Debut

The official website for the third anime season based onChoboraunyopomi's Ai Mai Mi four-panel manga revealed additional cast and the January 3 premiere date for the series on Saturday. The site has also revealed the third season's full title: Ai Mai Mi: Surgical Friends.
The five-minute anime series will premiere on January 3 on AT-X at 11:30 p.m. The series will then air on TV Saitama, tvk, KBS Kyoto, andSun TV. Additionally, the show will stream on Niconico, Bandai Channel, d Anime Store, and U-NEXT in Japan.
A special program for the anime (that will also be five minutes long) will air on December 24 on AT-X at 11:25 p.m., and will then later air on TV Saitama, tvk, KBS Kyoto, and Sun TV.

The three also sang the first two anime seasons' opening theme songs, and will perform the theme song "Zenin Shūgō Ai Mai Mi!!!" for the third season as well.
Itsuki Imazaki is returning to direct the new season at the animation studio Seven, just as he did for the first two seasons. Imazaki is also serving as the scriptwriter, producer, character designer, and animation director. Fūga Hatori is also returning from the first two seasons to compose the music. Nobuyuki Abe (Kemono Friends,Bananya) is the sound director. Dream Creation is in charge of the production, and On Lead is producing the sound.
Choboraunyopomi's four-panel manga follows girls in a manga club — Ai, Mai, Mī, and Ponoka-sempai — who might be fighting evil invaders threatening Earth, facing off against rivals in tournaments, and dealing with other absurd situations when they are not drawing manga.
The first anime season aired in 2013, and the second season aired in 2014. Crunchyroll streamed both series as they aired in Japan.

Kickstarter Campaign for Nekopara Reveals OVA Format, Launch Date on December 29

Sekai Project had announced planned Kickstarter campaign based on adult visual novel at Anime Expo
Game developer NEKO WORKs announced on Friday that its planned Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for an anime adaptation of its NEKOPARA adult visual novel will launch on December 29. NEKO WORKs alsolaunched a teaser website for the project, which reveals that the anime project is an OVA.
Video game and manga publisher Sekai Project announced at Anime Expo in July that it would launch a Kickstarter campaign for an anime based on Sayori and NEKO WORKs' NEKOPARA adult game. Sekai Project released the Nekopara Vol. 1 visual novel on PC via Steam in December 2014. The company describes the story:
What's NEKOPARA? Why, it's a cat paradise!
Kashou Minazuki, the son of a long line of Japanese confection makers moved out to open his own shop "La Soleil" as a patisserie.

Hand Shakers TV Anime Reveals New Promo Video, Character Designs

Series by GoHands premieres in January
Frontier Works began streaming a new promotional video on Friday for Hand Shakers, the original anime project with animation studio GoHands, production company Frontier Works, and publisher Kadokawa.
(Note: The below video cannot be viewed in Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.)

Fronter Works previously showed the video in Animate stores in March, then streamed a different promotional video in July.
The show's website previously revealed several character designs and the cast members for three of the characters last week.

The site additionally revealed character designs for Team Card, but has not yet revealed their respective voice actors.

The anime will premiere in January 2017. GoHands is in charge of the original planning, and GOON TRAX is composing the music. GoHands, Frontier Works, and Kadokawa are all credited with the original work.
The tagline on the key visual on the show's website reads, "protect it, with these hands." The key visual depicts Osaka's famous Dōtonboribashi bridge.
The following voice actors are also cast in the series, but the staff has not yet announced their respective roles:
The anime takes place in Osaka in "AD20XX," and revolves around the Hand Shakers — partners who can summon "Nimrodes," weapons born from their deep psyche by joining hands. In order to grant the pair's wish, the Hand Shakers compete with and fight other Hand Shaker pairs. The top pair will then meet and challenge "God."
The English text on the anime title logo reads:
They, the receivers of the Revelation of Babel. They, the challengers to God.
They, who inevitably throw themselves into battle with their partners. What does God want from them?
And did they want powers exceeding that of Gods? The chosen ones, their souls linked,

Kabukibu! Light Novel Series Reveals TV Anime Adaptation in Teaser Video

Series centers on formation of high school kabuki club
Kadokawa revealed on Friday that Yuuri Eda's Kabukibu! light novel series is getting a television anime adaptation. Kadokawa also began streaming a teaser video to commemorate the announcement.

The series revolves around Kurogo Kurusu, a high school student who loves kabuki so much that it's annoying. Kurogo yearns to perform kabuki as part of a club at his school, but currently his school doesn't have a kabuki club. So Kurogo sets out to create a kabuki club, and his first order of business is to gather members. Kadokawa will publish the novel's fifth volume on November 25.
Eda previously wrote the original story for artist Yamimaru Enjin's one-volume I Can't Even Breathe Without You manga, which Aurora Publishing, Inc. published in English in 2010.

Long Riders Cycling TV Anime's Promo Video Previews Ray's Opening Theme

Nao Tōyama, Hiromi Igarashi, Rumi Ookubo, Yurika Kurosawa, Yōko Hikasa star in series premiering on October 8
The official website for the television anime series of Taishi Miyake's Long Riders! cycling manga began streaming the show's promotional video on Friday. The show's staff previously showed the video at this summer's Comic Market 90 (Comiket 90) event earlier on Friday. The video previews Ray's opening theme song"♡km/h."
The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, BS11, and AT-X on October 8, and will begin streaming on the Bandai Channel on the same date.
The manga follows Ami Kurata, a first year college student with no special qualities. One day she happens to notice someone riding a folding bike, immediately falls in love with it, and uses all her savings to buy one. She eventually gets introduced to the world of long-distance bicycling and road racer bikes, and she forms a cycling team called Fortuna with four other female college students from the same school. Their goal is to ride in a "brevet" or long-distance event called "Fresh."

Miyake launched the manga in September 2012, and Ichijinsha shipped the seventh compiled volume on June 27. The volume's limited edition featured a sound drama and a radio program.
The manga has already inspired two "Touring Guide" books, a radio show, a TV Riders! television program on Tokyo MX TV, and an image song by ChouCho titled "Starting up." Special editions of the manga volumes have bundled sound dramas.

Cheer Boys!! Anime Casts Yuko Kaida, Ayumi Fujimura, Reika Uyama

The official website for the television anime of Ryō Asai's Cheer Danshi!! (Cheer Boys!!) novel revealed three more cast members for the anime on Tuesday.
The additional cast includes:

The previously revealed cast includes:
Yūki Yonai as Haruki Bandō, a freshman in college who was born into a family of Judo martial artists, but quit because of the pressure. He joined the cheerleading club after being invited by Kazuma. He takes a while to warm up to people.

Nobuhiko Okamoto as Kazuma Hashimoto, Haru's childhood friend and the person who understands him the most. He formed the cheerleading club because his late parents used to do cheerleading.

Yuuki Ono as Shō Tokugawa, a cheerleading expert who gives off an aura of handsomeness. He gives his harsh opinions to the newly-started cheerleading club. His only problem is that his sense in clothing is awful.

Tomokazu Sugita as Wataru Mizoguchi, the son of a high-class Japanese restaurant owner. His looks don't deceive: he has a stiff body and horrible rhythm. He often quotes famous figures.

Yuu Hayashi as Kōji Tōno, a young man who weighs 100 kilograms and has no experience with sports whatsoever, but joins the cheerleading club because he wants to change. His nickname is Ton.

Kōsuke Kuwano as Sōichirō Suzuki, a young man whose special skill is speaking in a Kansai dialect. Having played only baseball throughout high school, he is very skilled in athletics. His nickname is Ichirō.

Katsuyuki Konishi as Gen Hasegawa, a guy who is also from Kansai. He can usually be found screwing around with Ichirō, but can pull off a backflip without any problems.

Hiroki Yasumoto as Jin Dōmoto, the team captain of Sparks, the nation's strongest male/female cheerleading team. Has a strong sense of responsibility toward cheerleading, and has a past with Shō.

Yoshitaka Yamaya as Kaoru Hanasaki, a rookie in Sparks. Prideful, and opposes male-only cheerleading.

The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and TV Aichion July 5, and on BS11 on July 6.
Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee manga creator Hiroyuki Asada is providing the original character designs for the series.Ai Yoshimura (Blue Spring Ride, Dance with Devils) is directing the series at Brains Base, and Reiko Yoshida(Girls und Panzer, Haruchika – Haruta & Chika) is handling the series composition. Hitomi Tsuruta is adapting Asada's designs for animation and is also serving as chief animation director. Rock band Luck Life is performing the opening theme song "Hajime no Ippo" (First Step). The seven main cast members of the anime are performing the ending theme song "LIMIT BREAKERS" under the unit name BREAKERS.
The original youth novel revolves around the "slightly odd and cute" members of a cheerleading squad at a men's university. Shueisha published the novel in 2013.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Season 2 Listed With 13 Episodes

The official website of the Shokugeki no Sōma: Ni no Sara (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate), the second season of the Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma anime series, announced the series' home video release plans on Monday. The home video releases reveal the anime will have 13 episodes.
The series will have seven Blu-ray Disc volumes, which will contain two episodes each, except for the seventh volume, which will only contain one.
The series will premiere in Japan on July 2. The anime will air on Tokyo MX at 10:00 p.m., and on MBS at 26:28 (effectively July 3 at 2:28 a.m.). The show will also air on BS11 and Animax.
The main cast and staff from the first season will reprise their roles in the sequel. Hiroki Yasumoto is joining the cast as Subaru Mimasaka.
The television anime series adapts Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma manga. The first anime season aired for 24 episodes from May to September last year. Crunchyroll streamed the first anime adaptation as it aired in Japan, andSentai Filmworks licensed the series for North America.
The manga centers on Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!! Anime's 3rd Video Previews Opening Theme

4th anime based on Hiroshi Hiroyama's manga premieres on July 6
The official website for Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei!!, the fourth television anime based on Hiroshi Hiroyama'sFate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya manga, began stream the anime's third promotional video on Tuesday. The video previews the anime's opening theme song "Asterism" by ChouCho.
The anime will premiere on AT-X, Tokyo MX, and other channels on July 6. The anime will have six home video releases in Japan, and the first release will include a five-minute original anime short.
The anime's cast includes:
Misato Fukuen, Ryoko Shiraishi, Rie Kugimiya, and Sumire Morohoshi are new additions to the cast. Yumi Kakazureplaces the late Miyu Matsuki in the role of Magical Sapphire.
Shin Oonuma returns as chief director of the series. Ken Takahashi(previously a key animator and action director for the series) joins returning director Masato Jinbo to direct the series at SILVER LINK Kenji Inoue is once again in charge of supervising the series' scripts, penned by Hazuki Minase. Kazuya Hirata (previously a key animator for the series) replacesNozomi Ushijima in designing the characters for animation. Hiroshi Morikawa replaces Takeshi Tateishi as art director. TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND is composing the music.
Yumeha Kōda will perform the ending theme song "WHIMSICAL WAYWARD WISH."
The first television anime premiered in 2013, followed by the second in 2014 and the third last July. Crunchyroll streamed all three previous series as they aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed all three series for home video release in North America.
