Exclusive: Vampire Hunter D Has New Animated Series in the Works
Japanese CGI studio Digital Frontier collaborates with Unified Pictures from U.S.
California-based production studio Unified Pictures told ANN that it is unveiling plans for a new CG-animated series based on Hideyuki Kikuchi's long-running Vampire Hunter D novel series at Anime Expo. The company is co-producing the series with Japanese CGI animation studio Digital Frontier (Resident Evil: Degeneration, Tekken: Blood Vengeance, Mighty No. 9).
Kikuchi himself, as well as Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlustdirector Yoshiaki Kawajiri, are also involved with the project.
Unified Pictures producer Scott McLean said the company is looking to bring the series to television. "I've been a fan ofVampire Hunter D since I was a teenager," McLean said. "I'm overjoyed at being able to be a part of creating a new chapter for a story I greatly admire."
Unified Pictures will share more details, such as plans for the show's format and story, at its panel at Anime Expo on Thursday, July 2. The company will also host a Q&A session at the convention on Saturday.
Anime Expo will be held from July 2-5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Kikuchi began the novel series in 1983 and Asahi Shimbun Publications published the 29th volume (cover pictured in the ad above) in May. The story follows D, a half-human, half-vampire who hunts vampires in a desolate far future. Dark Horse Comics publishes Kikuchi's original novel series in North America, and Digital Manga Publishing releases the manga adaptation by Saiko Takaki.
The novel series previously inspired an original video anime in 1985 and the Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust film in 2000. The film was co-produced by Vampire Hunter D's American licensing company Urban Vision, and dubbed in English before it was dubbed in Japanese.
Sentai Filmworks announced in April that it had licensed the 1985 Vampire Hunter D anime, and will release it with a newEnglish dub in addition to the Japanese language track.Discotek Media announced in February that it had licensedVampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and plans to release it this September without the Japanese dubtrack.
Canadian horror magazine Rue Morgue reported in 2010 that Kikuchi was working on a new anime series.

A floating space without gravity where an infinite number of lights shine in different colors: The "Box of Wisdom." Inside of this box, there are multiple worlds, multiple timelines, and there used to be many different people. This is where Dual and Dorothy were fighting with enemies called "Viruses." Worlds infected by viruses must be erased. That is the duty, the job of these girls. However, one day, Dual and Dorothy feel the presence of a new Virus. Arriving at the scene, they see a girl being attacked by Viruses. After saving the girl, the duo wait for her to awaken so they can ask who she is, where she came from, and where she is going. Finally, when the girl opened her eyes, she gave her name, Rimo, and whispered only one sentence... "I must return to the flower patch..."
The brand-new anime film is based on D.Backup, the scenario and illustration project by the relatively new creative unit "Physics Point." D.Backup won the grand prize in Pony Canyon's first ever Anime-ka Taishō (Anime Adaptation Prize) in 2013. According to the prize's website, the premise is "'software' characters fight bugs that have spread inside the box of wisdom."
Masashi Ishihama (From the New World, Kamichu!) is directing the film at A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, The IDOLM@STER), and Fumihiko Shimo (Air, Kanon, Clannad, Amagi Brilliant Park,Golden Time, Infinite Stratos) wrote the screenplay. Kantoku (The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat., Magical Suite Prism Nana) created the original character designs.
Physics Point, which consists of the creative duo Otono Shimura and Suyuli Hiraume, won one million yen (about US$10,000) and the opportunity to have their D.Backup concept adapted into anime in Pony Canyon's contest.
The film will open this year. Ponycan USA has announced plans to release the film in North America.
Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment, Lost Song Games' English Trailer Streamed
Re: Hollow Fragment for PS4 gets renewed English translation
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe began streaming an English trailer from Japan Expo on Thursday for both the Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment and Sword Art Online Lost Songgames.
The company also confirmed that Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment for the PlayStation 4 willreceive a renewed English translation. The game will get a digital-only release in Europe on July 28.
Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment is a director's cut port of the Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment PlayStation Vita game with enhanced graphics. The PS Vita game launched digitally in North America and Europe last August, and the PS4 version will be available digitally in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australasia this summer.
Bandai Namco Entertainment promised a better English translation for Sword Art Online Lost Songin October when it was first announced for overseas localization in Asia. Physical editions of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game will ship in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australasia this fall.
Both games will feature subtitles in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 Game's English Video Previews Punk Hazard Arc

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe began streaming an English trailer from Japan Expo on Thursday for the One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 game. The game previews the Punk Hazard arc from the Eiichiro Oda's original manga and the anime adaptation.
The game will ship in North America on August 25, and will then ship in Europe, the Middle East, and Australasia on August 28. Bandai Namco Entertainment will release the game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and on PC (via Steam).
Those who pre-order the game in Europe will get four DLC items for free: two missions, a Luffy as a giant fish costume, and a Sabo dressed as Lucy costume. Europe will also get a "Doflamingo Edition," which includes a 16-centimeter (about 6.3-inch) Doflamingo figure. The Doflamingo Edition is only available for the PS4 and PS3 versions of the game.
The pre-order bonuses will be available in North America exclusively to customers who pre-order the PS4 edition at Game Stop. The special edition has not been confirmed for release in North America.
The game shipped in Japan on March 26 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. First copies of the game included an early unlock code to play as Sabo, a product code for Luffy's special costumes, and a serial code for a character in the smartphone game app One PieceTreasure Cruise.
The game follows Luffy's journey from the beginning through the Dressrosa Arc. Omega Force again developed the game, which allows players to go through the One Piece story with improved graphics. Namco Bandai Games released the first One Piece Pirate Warriors in Japan on PlayStation 3 and later in Europe and America in 2012. The second game shipped in Japan for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita and in Europe and North America for PlayStation 3 in 2013.
Tales of Symphonia HD Gets PC Release, Tales of Zestiria Gets Collector's Edition in Europe
Collector's edition to include 30-minute anime DVD when it ships on October 16
Bandai Namco Entertainment's official English Tales of blogannounced on Thursday that the HD edition of Tales of Symphonia will get a PC digital release via Steam in 2016.
The blog also revealed that the European release of Tales of Zestiria will have a collector's edition. This edition will include: 4 Chibi Kyun Chara figures, a Lady of the Lake sanctuary cloth artwork, a hardback artbook, a 30-minute anime DVD, a selected soundtrack from the game, an exclusive Normin metal case, and the collector's edition box. Those who purchase the game at launch, regardless of edition, will also get a free bonus "Exclusive Mystic Arte DLC" for Mikleo, Lailah, and Alisha. Those who purchase the game at launch will also get an additional chapter featuring Alisha's story for free for a limited time.
The company also revealed that participating retailers in selected countries will package the game with four badges, and some retailers and digital stores will include codes for classic Tales ofcostumes and weapon skins.
The pre-order bonuses for Tales of Zestiria on Steam will depend on the number of pre-orders. Pre-order bonuses range from weapon skins, classic male costumes, classic female costumes, to the final bonus being Tales of Symphonia HD for free on Steam.
Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed last month that it will release Tales of Zestiria on the PlayStation 4 and on PC via Steam in addition to the previously-revealed PlayStation 3 release. The game will debut in North America on October 20. In Europe, the game will debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on October 16, followed by the Steam release on October 20. Brazil will then receive the game on October 23.
Tales of Zestiria shipped for PlayStation 3 on January 22 in Japan. Bandai Namco Entertainmentwill ship the game in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australasia, and it will include both Japanese and English audio tracks. The anime special inspired by the game premiered in Japan last December.
Bandai Namco Games released an HD remaster of both Tales of Symphonia games under the titleTales of Symphonia: Unisonant Pack on the PS3 in Japan in October 2013, and in Europe, Australasia, and the Americas under the title Tales of Symphonia Chronicles in February 2014. The remastered release of both games included the English and Japanese audio tracks.

European release gets 3DS bundle on October 16
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe began streaming an English "extreme fighting" Japan Expo trailer on Thursday for Arc System Works' Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden fighting game forNintendo 3DS. The company will release the game in Europe, the Middle East, and Australasia on October 16, and it will then release the game in the Americas on October 20.
Those who pre-order the game in Europe will get early access to six support characters, including: baby Goku, Super Vegito, kid Gohan, Meta-Cooler, Garlic Jr., and kid Goku.
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe also announced on Thursday that Europe will get a Nintendo3DS bundle for the game. The bundle will include a black Nintendo 3DS with cover plates, as well as the Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 2 digital SNES game (the game will be in Japanese only). The bundle will come with Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden pre-installed.
The fighting game features more than 120 characters (only about two dozen are playable, the rest are Z Assists characters) from Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball franchise.
With "Z Assist," Bulma and Chichi (among other characters) will provide support to players via Bulma's inventions from Capsule and Chichi's fury (which fills the screen with a giant speech balloon of her venting). Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan God SS) form Vegeta will also appear as a Z Assist character in the game and is available through a code on Japanese tickets for the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' film. Players can employ "Ultimate Arts" finishing moves, and the game will feature unique layouts and stages.
Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden shipped in Japan on June 11 for 5,690 yen (about US$47). First copies of the game in Japan came bundled with a Dragon Ball Disk Cross disk featuring the version of Frieza that appears in the Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F (Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F') film, a product code to download the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo) game Dragon Ball Z Cho Butoden 2 to the Nintendo 3DS, and a card for Dragon Ball Heroes featuring the film version of Goku. If players have save data from the Dragon Ball Heroes Ultimate Mission 2 Nintendo 3DS game, Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta will appear within Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden.
The franchise debuted on the Super Famicom system in Japan with Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōdenin 1993. Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butōden was released for the Nintendo DS in 2011.

European pre-order bonuses, collector's edition detailed for game shipping this fall
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe began streaming an English-subtitled Japan Expo trailer on Thursday for the Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (Naruto Shippūden Narutimate Storm 4) game. The video previews KANA-BOON's opening song "Spiral" and previews Kaguya Ōtsutsuki — the first user of chakra — who will be a playable character in the game.
The video also reveals pre-order bonuses for the European release. Those who pre-order the game will receive Boruto and Sarada as playable characters and a character skin for Kakashi from The Last -Naruto the Movie-. Additionally, those who pre-order the game will get early access to Naruto and Sasuke from The Last -Naruto the Movie- as playable characters plus a combination secret technique for the two characters, as well as character skins for Sakura and Hinata with their The Last -Naruto the Movie- costumes.
The European version of the game will also get a collector's edition that will include a Naruto figurine from The Last -Naruto the Movie-, a metal plate with an exclusive illustration, a "FuturePack," a "Storm Memories" artbook, and a collector's box.
The rock band KANA-BOON wrote "Spiral" specifically to be the opening theme of the game. The band has already contributed theme songs to the Naruto Shippūden television anime and Boruto -Naruto the Movie-.
Naruto Shippūden Narutimate Storm 4 will feature the largest number of fighters in the series history. That roster includes characters from the fight between Hashirama and Madara, as well as characters from The Last -Naruto the Movie-. The game will also recreate the Shinobi World War.
Those who buy the game in Japan on its initial release will receive Boruto and Sarada — the stars of Boruto -Naruto the Movie- — as playable characters. The initial release will also include The Sixth Hokage costume for Kakashi and The Last -Naruto the Movie- costumes for Sakura and Hinata.
