Hiroyuki Nishimori, Yuuki Iinuma's Nanimo nai Kedo Sora wa Aoi Manga Ends in 6th Volume

Manga about boy, girl in dying world premiered in March 2014

Shogakukan is listing the sixth compiled book volume of Hiroyuki Nishimori and Yuuki Iinuma's Nanimo nai Kedo Sora wa Aoi (There's Nothing But the Sky is Blue) manga as its last volume. Shogakukan will publish the manga's sixth volume on September 18.
The manga's story begins after meteorites fall and scatter on the Earth's surface, triggering the rise of unknown lifeforms that begin to decompose metal at a frighteningly quick pace. The breakdown of public order and food shortages breed endless conflict and threaten the collapse of civilization. Jinkichi Kawakami lives in a provincial town 200 kilometers away from Tokyo, where he meets Kara Shichinomiya. The manga follows their lives in the dying world.
Nishimori (Kyou Kara Ore Wa!!, Cheeky Angel) and Iinuma (Itsuwaribito) launched the manga in March 2014 inShogakukan's Shonen Sunday magazine. Shogakukan published the manga's fifth compiled book volume on June 18.
Viz Media is publishing Iinuma's Itsuwaribito manga in North America. The company also published Nishimori's Cheeky Angel manga.

2nd Baby Steps Season Casts Masakazu Morita

Morita plays Sakuya Takagi, classmate and clubmate of Yū Nabae

NHK's Anime World website revealed on Tuesday that the second season of the Baby Steps TV anime has cast Masakazu Morita (Bleach's Ichigo, Dragon Ball Super's Wiss) as Sakuya Takagi, a classmate and clubmate of Yū Nabae. The character will debut in the anime's 19th episode on Sunday. The website also revealed the character's visual.

The Baby Steps television anime adapts Hikaru Katsuki's manga of the same name, which revolves around Eiichirō "Ei-chan" Maruo, a punctual and earnest boy who has striven for straight As since elementary school. The 15-year-old high school boy stops by a tennis school to deal with his lack of exercise. There, he meets Natsu Takasaki, a beautiful, earnest girl who only has passion for tennis. The second season's story picks up at a Florida academy where the rival players of the world vie for #1. The season is slated for 25 episodes.
The first anime series premiered last April. Pierrot (Naruto,Kingdom) animated the first television series with a total of 25 episodes. Katsuki himself collaborated on the creation of episodes with original stories not told in the manga. Kenji Saito (Dennō Coil, Bakuman, Bottom Biting Bug) produced the anime for NHK. Crunchyroll streamed the first series as it aired in Japan, and is also streaming the currently ongoing second season.

Young Black Jack TV Anime's 1st Promo Video Previews Theme Song

Yuichiro Umehara, Koji Yusa, Shizuka Itou star in series premiering in October

TBS' official website for the Young Black Jack television anime series began streaming the first promotional video for the series on Saturday. The video features the show's opening theme song "I Am Just Feeling Alive" by the duo UMI☆KUUN.
Yuichiro Umehara will star in the series as Kurō Hazama, the titular character Black Jack. The rest of the main cast includes:

Mitsuko Kase (SaiKano, Ristorante Paradiso) is directing the anime at Tezuka Productions, andArmored Trooper Votoms creator Ryousuke Takahashi is supervising and writing the series scripts.Miyuki Katayama and Nana Miura are designing the characters and serving as chief animation directors. Minoru Nishida (Phoenix, Jungle Emperor Leo special, Thundercats) and Masato Shibata(Black Jack, Black Jack 21, Phoenix) are the art directors, and Megumi Arai is the color key artist.
Kazumasa Someya is the director of photography, and Tamami Watabe is editing. Toshiki Kameyama is directing the sound at Groove, and Daisuke Ikeda (Golgo 13, Project ARMS) is composing the music at Being. The duo UMI☆KUUN is performing the opening theme song "I Am Just Feeling Alive," and Takuto is handling the ending song.
The series will premiere on October 1 at 2:16 a.m. on TBS, and it will then run on CBC, Sun TV,BS-TBS, and other stations.
The series adapts Yū-Go Ōkuma and Yoshiaki Tabata's Young Black Jack manga, which is a prequel to Osamu Tezuka's classic series about a brilliant maverick doctor who practices without a license. Ōkuma and author Tabata launched the ongoing series in Akita Shoten's Young Championmagazine in 2011, with Nobumasa Gotō as the medical supervisor. The prequel follows Black Jack when he was still a medical student in the 1960s.

Minami Mizuno's Nijiiro Days Manga Gets TV Anime Adaptation


The September issue of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine is announcing on Tuesday that Minami Mizuno's Nijiiro Days (Rainbow Days) manga is getting a television anime adaptation.

Tetsuro Amino (Broken Blade, Macross 7, Shiki) will serve as chief director, and Tomihiko Ohkubo(Brave Story unit director, Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, Kiss wa Me ni Shite director) will direct the series at Production Reed (Onsen Yōsei Hakone-chan, Hōkago no Tinker Bell). Aki Itami(Mushi-Shi, Flowers of Evil) will handle the series composition.
The anime will open an official website on Tuesday.
The manga centers on a group of four male high school students who are close friends: Natsuki, Tomoya, Keiichi, and Tsuyoshi. The four boys have no club activities, and they hurry through their studies so they can spend their days having fun. Their main topic of interest: love. Natsuki has an unrequited crush on Anna, a girl from another class, and his friends keep meddling in their relationship.
Mizuno launched the manga in Bessatsu Margaret in the February 2012 issue, and Shueisha published the ninth compiled volume in May. The company will publish the 10th volume on September 25. The manga inspired a drama CD that Shueisha bundled with a limited edition of the seventh volume in October 2014.

Akame ga KILL! Anime Premieres Tonight on Toonami

Series will be 1st Sentai Filmworks show to premiere on current Toonami block

The Akame ga KILL! television anime series will premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami block at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Akame ga KILL! will be Sentai Filmworks' first show to premiere on the current Toonami block. The anime adapts the manga series written by Takahiro with art by Tetsuya Tashiro. The dark action fantasy manga follows the title character Akame, a girl who was bought and raised by the Empire as an assassin. After meeting Akame, a boy named Tatsumi vows to stand up to the evil of the corrupt Empire with the secret assassin group Night Raid and special weapons known as Teigu.
The anime premiered last July, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series in North America.Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

Boruto, Sarada Give Opinion on Each Other's Dads in New Boruto -Naruto the Movie- Ad

Film opened on Friday in Japan, will play in 80+ U.S. cities in October

The official website for the Boruto -Naruto the Movie- anime film began streaming two more television ads for the film on Friday. The ads promote the "Naruto ga Hokage ni Natta Hi" (The Day Naruto Became a Hokage) manga short, and also preview the film's theme song "Diver" by KANA-BOON.

Weekly Shonen Jump describes the story of the new film as follows (Note: the below summary contains spoilers for those who have not finished reading the manga):
Boruto is the son of the seventh Hokage Naruto who completely rejects his father. Behind this, he has feelings of wanting to surpass Naruto, who is respected as a hero. He ends up meeting his father's friend Sasuke, and requests to become... his apprentice!? The curtain rises on the story of the new generation written by Masashi Kishimoto!
The previously revealed cast members include:
Yuko Sanpei is playing Boruto (pictured top left in image below) and Kokoro Kikuchi is playing Sarada (pictured top right). Junko Takeuchi is returning to play Naruto Uzumaki, and Noriaki Sugiyama is returning to play Sasuke Uchiha. 
The film will feature the Chunin Exams with the new generation. Boruto's three-member squad, the new "InoShikaChō," and Genin from other villages will all participate.
Original Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto is credited with the original story, script, and character designs, as well as the chief production supervisor, for the film. Hiroyuki Yamashita(Naruto Shippūden episode director, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie animation director) is directing the film, and Ukyō Kodachi (Chaos Dragon, Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road) is collaborating with Kishimoto on the script.
The rock band KANA-BOON is contributing their "Diver" song as the theme song, after contributing their "Silhouette" single as the opening theme of the Naruto Shippūden television anime.
The film opened in Japanese theaters on August 7. Theatergoers will be able to choose one of two fans designed by Masashi Kishimoto as a special gift. The "Uzumaki Version" will feature Naruto and Boruto and the "Uchiha Version" will feature Sasuke and Sarada. The fans are limited to 100,000 units.
Those who watch Boruto -Naruto the Movie- in theaters throughout Japan in August will receive 2 million copies of an official book — one with a brand-new one-shot manga by original manga creator Masashi Kishimoto. The Naruto Hiden Zai no Sho Official Movie Book's title indicates that the book is a spinoff of the Naruto: The Official Character Data Book series.
The book will debut the manga short "Naruto ga Hokage ni Natta Hi" (The Day Naruto Became the Hokage) that Kishimoto personally drew. The story episode did not appear in the main Naruto manga's original run. The book will also include the main manga series' 700th and final chapter in full color.
Viz Media has licensed the film for a North American release, and Viz Media and Eleven Arts willscreen the film in more than 80 cities starting on October 10.

Overlord Chibi Character Anime's 1st Episode Streamed

New super-deformed short to debut every week, stream for 2 weeks

Media Factory began streaming the first episode of the Overlord anime's Pure Pure Purea Desuchibi character anime shorts on Friday. The first three-minute episode, titled "Owata to Hajimari," will stream for two weeks.
The comedy anime shorts feature super-deformed characters and air after the AT-X network's broadcast of each episode of the television anime. The first episode of the shorts debuted on Tuesday. Media Factory will stream a new episode of the anime shorts for two weeks starting on the Friday after each new episode of the television series airs. The Overlord television anime currently airs on AT-X on Tuesdays at 11:00 p.m.
The Overlord anime's main cast are reprising their roles for the anime shorts. Minoru Ashina(Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) is producing, directing, and writing scripts for the shorts. Minoru Takehara (Agriculture Angel Baraki, Boku, Otaryman) is serving as the petite character designer and animation director. Studio Puyukai (Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) is animating the series, and Medicire is offering production cooperation.
The Overlord television anime series premiered in Japan on July 7. The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.
Satoshi Hino (Log Horizon's Isaac, Yowapeda's Hayato Shinkai,Bakuman.'s Akito Takagi) is returning from the drama CDs to star as the protagonist Momonga. Emiri Katō and Sumire Uesaka are also returning to their roles as Aura Bella Fiore and Shalltear Bloodfallen, respectively. Additionally, Kenta Miyakeis playing Cocytus, Manami Numakura is playing Narberal Gamma, Masayuki Katou is playing Demiurge, Shigeru Chiba is playing Sebas Tian, and Yumi Uchiyama is playing Mare Bello Fiore.
Kugane Maruyama began the original light novel series online in 2010, and Kadokawa's Enterbrainimprint then published it in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012. Kadokawa will release the ninth novel on June 29. The first manga volume shipped on June 26.

2nd Wild Adapter OVA Slated for September

Promo video previews "Kou" episode originally slated for 2014

The official website for the original video anime (OVA) adaptation of Kazuya Minekura's Wild Adapter manga began streaming a fourth promotional video on Friday. The video reveals that the second and final episode, titled "Kou," is slated to ship in Japan on September 30.
The episode was originally slated to ship last November, but it was delayed. The first episode, "Zen," shipped in March 2014.
The second episode's limited edition release will cost 9,500 yen (about US$76) and include a special DVD sleeve case with an exclusive illustration by Minekura, audio commentaries by Morikawa and Ishikawa, a special CD with character and cast messages and an original drama specially written by Minekura, an exclusive booklet, a picture label, and two bromide cards.
The manga went on hiatus in January due to Minekura's health and resumed in March.
In Minekura's (Saiyuki) original manga, a young gang leader named Makoto Kubota (voiced byToshiyuki Morikawa) takes in Minoru Tokitō (Hideo Ishikawa), a boy with a mysterious past. Minoru has been exposed to the drug "W.A.," which has transformed his right arm into a monstrous limb. The two investigate the origins of the drug that is devastating the city's underground.
The series launched in Tokuma Shoten's bimonthly Chara magazine in 2001 and switched toIchijinsha Zero-Sum Ward magazine in 2013. The manga transferred to Ichijinsha's Zero-Sum Online when Zero-Sum Ward ceased publication in May. The characters of Wild Adapter had appeared in Minekura's Shiritsu Araiso Kōtōgakkō Seitokai Shikkōbu (Araiso Private High School Student Council Executive Committee) manga and its 2002 video anime adaptation.
Tokyopop licensed the Wild Adapter manga in 2006 for release in North America. The company published six volumes before closing its North American publishing division in 2011.

Night on the Galactic Railroad Gets New Manga

Classic novel inspired 1985 anime film

Gakken Education Publishing published a new kids' manga adaptation of Kenji Miyazawa's Night on the Galactic Railroad(Ginga Tetsudō no Yoru) novel in Japan on Friday.
Hinata Kino drew the manga is part of the Manga Junior Meisaku Series (Manga Junior Masterpiece Series), which adapts literary classics into manga for elementary and middle schoolers. The manga uses pictures and modern speech to make the older works easier to understand.
Gisaburô Sugii adapted the original novel into an anime film in 1985. Central Park Media released the film on DVD in North America in 2001, and Discotek Media announced in February that it plans to re-release the film on DVD and Blu-ray.
Stone Bridge Press and One Peace Books both published the original novel in English, although Stone Bridge Press used the title Milky Way Railway.
Miyazawa (1896-1933) was a famous Japanese children's book author. In addition to Night on the Galactic Railroad, he wrote stories and poems that would inspire elements of From Up On Poppy Hill and Pom Poko.
Miyazawa's children's poem Rain Won't (Ame ni mo Mukezu) wasillustrated into a picture book by animator Koji Yamamura (Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor, Mt. Head, Babel's Book) and translated into English.
Miyazawa's own life inspired an anime, Ihatov Gensou: Kenji no Haru(Vision of Ihatov: Kenji's Spring), in 1996 from Shoji Kawamori(Macross, Escaflowne) and a manga, Manga Miyazawa Kenji, in 1993 by Ko Yano. Miyazawa is also a character in Kafuka Asagiri's mangaBungō Stray Dogs (Literary Stray Dogs). Tokyopop released Kenji's Spring on DVD under the name Spring and Chaos. Japan and Stuff Press published Manga Miyazawa Kenji under the name The Manga Biography of Kenji Miyazawa, Author of Night of the Milky Way Railway.

Mikako Takahashi Joins Food Wars! Anime Cast as Jun Shiomi

Character to debut with Junichi Suwabe's Akira Hayama in episode 19

This year's combined 37th and 38th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump will announce on Monday that Mikako Takahashiwill join the cast of Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma as Jun Shiomi. She will debut along with Junichi Suwabe as Akira Hayama in the anime's 19th episode on August 14.
The official website announced other prominent cast members for the upcoming arc last month: Junichi Suwabe as Akira Hayama, Saori Goto as Nao Sadasuka, and Asami Seto as Miyoko Hōjō.
J.C. Staff is animating the series, which adapts Yūto Tsukudaand Shun Saeki's Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma comedy manga. The story follows Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.
The show premiered on April 3, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs. Sentai Filmworkshas licensed the series for home video.
