Adaptation of story about raccoon dog, fox to have 20 episodes
The official website for Atamoto's Tanuki to Kitsune (Raccoon Dog and Fox) manga revealed on Thursday that the series is inspiring a series of web anime shorts. The series' official YouTube channel began streaming a promotional video for the announcement, and Atamoto drew a visual.
Tomohiro Tsukimisato (chief director for Yurumates3Dei Plus) is directing the anime shorts. Each episode will be one minute and 30 seconds long, and the series will have 20 episodes. The series will begin streaming on YouTube in February, but only 18 episodes will stream online. All 20 episodes will be available on a DVD that will bundle with the manga's fourth compiled book volume on May 15.
The manga's story centers on the daily lives of a raccoon dog who is not quite with it and a mischievous fox who likes to tease the raccoon dog. The two are close friends who live together on a mountain. Their other friends include a wolf, a bear, a rabbit, and birds.
Atamoto began serializing the manga on Twitter, and Frontier Works released the third compiled book volume in print on November 15. The series has already inspired a wide variety of merchandise, as well as stamps on the LINE messaging and social media app.
