Japan to Open "Sylvanian Families" Theme Park

For a while in the 1980s, American/French/Japanese co-production Sylvanian Families was popular in countries around the world. Based on the Japanese toy line by Epoch, it featured anthropomorphic animals living in a fictional world based on mid-20th-century Britain. Though the show has gone in and out of style, Japan still loves it -- and is commemorating its 35th anniversary with a new attraction.

Sylvanian Park will be opening as part of Comorebi Mori no Ibaraido, a theme park in Inashiki. The 3,320 square meter attraction will reconstruct the familiar village of Sylvania, allowing families to tour the houses of the series and toy sets.

The park will be open to visitors on June 23, but an official Grand Opening celebration will be held on July 14. Visitors to the Grand Opening celebration can shop for limited-edition Sylvanian Families toys and products, and take part in a "quiz rally" to win prizes.
