The Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture television anime was announcedearlier this month, and it will premiere on April 5. The broadcast will recompile the four existing episodes of Ghost in the Shell Arise and include two new episodes.
Ghost in the Shell Arise was originally a four-part anime series, helmed by Kazuchika Kise at Production I.G and written by Tow Ubukata, that premiered in Japan from July 2013 to September 2014. Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga inspired the video anime. Funimation released the series' first two episodes in North America in a Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo last October.
Series writer Tow Ubukata commented on the new television broadcast, saying Shirow's original Ghost in the Shell manga was "not a classic sleeping in a museum, but a modern work that begged to be adapted for the screen." He stated that the television broadcast will take into account the "peculiarities of the TV medium," and will answer "why the Section 9 members were brought together." Concerning the upcoming film, Ubukata said that it will "deal even more with the past and inner personality of Motoko." He also hopes that "with Ghost in the Shell Arise - Alternative Architecture, I've created a new Ghost in the Shell work that can touch new people, as well as something that old fans of the manga, movies, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex can enjoy."
Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture will premiere on Tokyo MX on April 5 and then run on BS11 and other channels.
