Big Hero 6 takes weekend crown again, earns cumulative total of 5.7 billion yen
The Yo-kai Watch: Tanjō no Himitsu da Nyan! (Yōkai Watch the Movie: It's the Secret of Birth, Meow!) anime film's box officereceipts topped 6.54 billion yen (about US$54.8 million) after the extended holiday weekend. The film now ranks at the #82 spot in the list of Japan's 100 highest-grossing films of all time, and remains at #2 at the weekend box office.
In addition, the Psycho-Pass film opened last Friday, and earned 247.8 million yen (US$2.08 million) from opening day till Monday with 71,545 patrons attending the film. Movie data firm Kōgyō Tsūshinsha reports thatthe film also took the #4 spot on the weekend film rankings.
The live-action film of Io Sakisaka's Blue Spring Ride (Ao Haru Ride) romance manga dropped from #4 to #7 in its fifth weekend. Parasyte fell from #6 to #10 in its seventh weekend.
Big Hero 6 topped the weekend box office again by selling about 670,000 tickets for 800 millionyen (US$6.7 million). Since it opened 22 days ago, it has sold a total of 4,525,068 tickets for 5,723,736,400 yen (US$47,969,000). Toy Story 3 had also surpassed the 5-billion-yen mark after its 22nd day in 2010.
