Yoshimasa Hosoya will voice original character for film opening on July 18
The official website for the Gekijōban Meiji Tokyo Renka: Yumihari no Serenade (Film Version Meiji Tokyo Love Song ~Crescent Moon's Serenade~) anime film revealed on Friday that Sumire Morohoshi (Aikatsu!'s Ichigo, Tokyo Ghoul's Hinami) will voice the heroine Mei Ayazuki (pictured standing center left in the key visual below) in the film. Additionally, Yoshimasa Hosoya (Kuroko's Basketball Hyūga, The Heroic Legend of Arslan's Daryun) will voice the film-original character Tōsuke Iwasaki (pictured below).
The character description for Tōsuke Iwasaki reads:
He is a student at Keio University who is studying electricity and has a fascination for New York. He always makes good on his promises and hates illogical things. At first glance he seemingly has a calm personality, but he can unexpectedly show a passionate side. He has something mysterious he's hiding about his past...

The film is based on Broccoli's Meiji Tokyo Renka visual novel game. The movie's website describesthe story's prologue: On an evening lit by a crimson full moon, an ordinary high school girl named Mei Ayazuki meets a self-proclaimed magician named Charlie at a festival. Through Charlie's magic, she time-travels to the Meiji era in Tokyo, where she meets and falls in love with various great historical figures from that time period.
Hiroshi Watanabe (Hetalia The Beautiful World) is directing the film at Studio DEEN under the supervision of Yukiko Uoizumi, the scenario writer of the game series. Yoshiko Nakamura (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Hiiro no Kakera - The Tamayori Princess Saga) wrote the screenplay, and Akio Hirakawa (chief animation director on Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East) adapted Karu's original character designs for animation. Mages. is credited with the original story. KENN will perform the film's theme song.
The film will open in Japan on July 18.
