Prequel series profiles Osamu Tezuka's iconic character when he was in med school
The 11th issue of Akita Shoten's Young Champion magazine is announcing next Tuesday that Yū-Go Ōkuma and Yoshiaki Tabata's Young Black Jack manga is getting a television anime adaptation.
Illustrator Ōkuma and author Tabata (Ninja Slayer: Machine of Vengeance, Akumetsu) are also starting a new arc of the manga as of the 11th issue. The two will host an autograph event to commemorate the anime announcement at the upcoming "Young Black Jack x Black Jack Goods Shop" in Shinjuku on May 23. The shop is opening on the sixth floor of the Marui Annex building on May 15 and will be open until June 1.
Young Black Jack is a prequel to Osamu Tezuka's classic series about a brilliant maverick doctor who practices without a license. Ōkuma and author Tabata launched the ongoing series in Young Championin 2011 and Akita Shoten will publish the eighth compiled volume on May 20 in Japan. The prequel follows Black Jack when he was still a medical student in the 1960s.
