Tokyo Ghoul Horror Stage Play's Main Visual Unveiled

Sales for premium tickets for front row seats, exclusive merchandise begins on May 8

The official website of the Tokyo Ghoul stage play unveiled the play's main visual on Thursday, featuring Yūki Ogoe as Kaneki. The website also revealed that sales of pre-reserve tickets will begin on May 8 and end on May 14. Regular ticket sales will begin on May 23.
The show will sell premium tickets only during the pre-reserve period. Front row seats, exclusive merchandise, and pamphlets are only available to premium ticket buyers. Premium tickets will cost 10,800 yen (around US$90), while regular seat reservations will cost 7,000 yen (around US$58).
The play will run at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from July 2-8 and at the Kyōto Gekijō from July 18-20.
This year's 20th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine announced the cast last month. The cast includes:
  • Yūki Ogoe as Ken Kaneki
  • Aya Tabata as Tōka Kirishima
  • Shōgo Suzuki as Nishiki Nishio
  • Shūto Miyazaki as Hideyoshi Nagachika
  • Yuri Hamada as Rize Kamishiro

  • Masaaki Okuno as Asaki Fueguchi
  • Yūki Kimisawa as Kōtarō Amon
  • Jiyū Arima as Kureo Madō
  • Tadayoshi Katō as Yoshimura
Isamu Kayano will direct the stage play, and Chūji Mikasano will write the script. Mikasano provided the script for the Tokyo Ghoul anime's first season and was in charge of series composition for both the first and second seasons. Gō Sakabe will compose the music for the stage play, while Daisuke Shimizu will choreograph the theatrical combat.
Sui Ishida's Tokyo Ghoul horror manga is inspiring the play. Ishida launched the series in Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2011, and Shueisha shipped the 14th and final compiled volume last October. The series has more than 12 million copies in circulation. Viz Media plans to release the manga's first compiled volume in North America in June. Ishida launched the Tokyo Ghoul:remanga with a different main character in December.
In the original manga's story, mysterious "ghouls" haunt Tokyo and devour humans. People are gripped by fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight.
The second television anime season inspired by Ishida's original manga premiered in Japan on January 8. Ishida was credited with creating the original manga for the first season, but Ishida is also credited with the original story concept for the second season.
Funimation streamed an English Broadcast Dub of the anime's second season as it aired in Japan. The North American anime distributor also streamed the first series as it aired in Japan last summer.
